Springtails, Morgellons, Fungi, Oh My!

Well, now I know why the last 18 months of my life have been shattered, destroyed, yanked out from underneath me, and shoved down my throat,  just when I was choking to death already.  Silence!  You can't speak out if you're six feet under.

I have known in my heart of hearts that there is a connection between fungi/mold, Springtails/Collembola, and Morgellons.

In March, 2011, I became ill with a serious eye infection which nearly took my life.  Surgeons, bent on chalking up the rare eye infection from which I suffered to something other than what it truly was, accused me of drug abuse, sexual promiscuity and worse.

Vials of blood later, and only after having my dignity taken from me, all the hospital tests for drugs, toxins, and HIV were returned negative.  What did return positive, however, was evidence of "gases" captured in my sinus cavity - gases noted on the CT scan report as possibly being that of living organisms and their bodily processes. Scary right?

When I returned home after nearly a week in the hospital, I was weak, tired, and desperately in need of rest.

Instead of rest, I was forced to battle an onslaught of Springtails (Collembola) that had made their way into the old house that I was renting in a small, marsh-filled, waterfront community with history dating back to 1873, and even further to an early-19th century Seminole chief.

Initially, I had no concept as to what the invaders were.  Fortunately, at the time, I was working on a dredging project as a Turbidity Technician, and the Senior Environmental Scientist, once I showed him photographs of the little creatures, quickly, and without even stopping to think, announced to me that they were Springtails.

Being a reporter, and always having had the "need to know," I quickly began researching Springtails which led me to Morgellons, Lyme Disease and more.

During my battle with Collembola, I also determined that a wall-mounted air conditioning unit in the house had been leaking down inside the exterior wall, rather than outside as it should have.  Apparently, whoever installed it, failed to do so with the appropriate gradient/slope, so rather than trickling out the back of the unit and onto the grass below, the water which the unit extracted from the air in the home had leached into the wall for over a year.  I still wouldn't have known were it not for my stepping into a pool of condensate that had gathered underneath the carpeting that lay directly underneath the unit itself.

What ensued wasn't merely a battle with the Springtails, but an onslaught of mold that quickly spread through the main sitting room of the house where the air unit was located.

After nearly two months, I finally conquered both the mold and the Collembola.  It was a 24/7 task.

As the eye infection nearly took my site, I am guessing that the invaders were already in my home due to the mold in the air unit and wall, but with only one eye to see with, coupled with the severe migraine headaches that it caused, I just didn't notice them.

Now, nearly two years later, having lost everything I've spent my entire life building, I'm finally back in the saddle, and ready to find the final answers which I know are within reach.

  1. Hi there! We've been battling these demons for the last six months... We are near the end of it... Just finding a couple dead ones recently after nearly a month of finding none. My question is: did they figure out what had infected your eye? I've been to a couple of specialists and found that I had uveitis (unknown cause), floaters in both eyes (since the springtail invasion), and a retinal tear... All during this battle. Was tested for Lyme and syphilis (all the ophthalmologist could think of)... And both were negative. Do you think it could be fungal infection from the springtails? The eye doc didn't think so, but I'm not sure... Any ideas?

    2. My apologies for the delay in responding. The answer to your questions is "no." They ran all sorts of fungal/mold tests - all which were negative. And, while it sounds terrifying, my belief is that the Springtails/Collembola entered my eye through the ear canal, tear duct or nasal passages. As I slept on a pull-out bed directly next to the air unit where the mold and Springtails were located, it makes complete sense, although I hate to admit it. Another woman in the town where I lived at the time was so overcome with a parasitic infestation that they had bored their way into her brain which caused what outwardly looked like a STROKE. It took a special neurologist out of Sarasota to determine that it was due to parasites. I too have seen this specialist, and have had every test imaginable done including Lyme Disease - all of which returned negative. The problem is that the medical community has not developed a test specific to Springtails/Collembola. So there is no definitive way to prove my theory.
Thank you for your comment, and I am truly sorry that you are dealing with the same issue. Know this, you're not alone, and neither am I. These tiny intruders are wreaking havoc on the world's population, and until the medical field decides to confront it, rather than run away from it, we are left to our own devices. I found holistic therapy - a regimen of various vitamins and minerals that I flooded my system with. And, while they told me that I would never regain my vision in that eye, my vision in that eye is actually 20/15. It was 20/25 before the infection. Go figure. Check in and let me know how you are from time to time.

    3. Hello again!! I'm so sorry it's taken this long to respond... was unable to get through the captcha thing on my phone and had to de-bug my computer before I could use it. Argh. Thank you for your encouraging words! We are doing better these days... trying to move forward after the nightmare, but I am still dealing with eye floaters, as well as hair loss from what I suspect is a fungal infection of the scalp. No real answers, though. =0/ Currently on an antifungal and Fivelac, and considering doing a parasite cleanse with Humaworm. So confused through all of this. If you don't mind sharing, what has helped you to recover?

    4. Sorry to hear of your phone and computer issues. Know them WELL. As for what has helped me: First, you have to remain calm and try to keep stress out of your life. Know that sounds nearly impossible with what you are experiencing, BUT IT IS PERTINENT. Second, get as much rest as you possibly can. KNOW THAT SOUNDS IMPOSSIBLE TOO, but it is absolutely necessary. Third, detoxing is a fabulous concept, and one I encourage. I began taking numerous vitamins and mineral supplements. Minerals are the key factor. Consider finding a naturist supply where you can acquire "structured" water which contains loads of minerals your body is craving. While I am not a doctor, I can attest to these few recommendations as they worked for me personally. Please consult with a doctor before you do anything!!! If you choose not to, just experiment carefully and slowly. My first regimen of supplements included Airborne - the over-the-counter supplement created by a school teacher who always found herself getting ill due to exposure to all her students, Turmeric, Cranberry, Garlic, B-complex (helps with energy), Vitamin C (additional to that contained in Airborne), and Acidopholus - natural, live enzymes. Once again, I am not a doctor, and only know this worked for me. Additionally, take good care of your skin and scalp. A close friend of mine, Trisha Springstead - who is an RN - has an incredible line of organic care products. She is also a wonderful person to speak with via email, etc. regarding your current problem. Her company is ESP Botanicals. Please remain in touch, as I hope the best for you and yours. You will get through this! Just remain positive.
